peg angels

It was a sweltering day. The kind where the grass feels crispy underfoot and the air outside cloaks you making everyday movement tiresome. That eerie yellow afternoon haze that only comes with oppressive heat filtered in. Thoughts of an impending bush fire season weighed heavily on my mind. Temperaments were tetchy at best and dinner preparations took a turn for the worse.

A glance around the room, a sigh....a smile. Vintage nutcrackers, blown glass ornaments from far off places, memories of travels, a knitted Santa with a damp toe from a teething baby boy. Christmas.

A fossick through pretty things, some snipping, some gluing. Gentle nattering with my baby girl whilst her brother dreamed. Cold drinks cooled tempers and all was well in the world.

We made peg angels using some old dolly pegs, vintage hankies, doilies cut in half, a strip of tin foil folded til thin and then twisted into a halo, wool scraps for hair and a glue gun. We made the halo first and then glued it to the back of the peg. A small hole was made in the hanky and then the peg was popped over the top with a whisker of hot glue around the neck to keep it in place. The half doily was glued to the back, some hair was added and twine was wrapped around to hang her from the tree. A happy face completed our angel.
