Moments.
Scraped knees reddened with Mercurochrome and neon zinc stains across noses and cheeks. Warm baths that send cold feet into itchy spasms. They still remember the dewy Winter grass and the soccer ball they booted way into the air. Tea and dry toast on the lounge when bellies where ailing. Spinning around and around until the world gave way to blur. Guinea pigs and blanket tents.
Braces, permed hair, blue light discos and algebra. Swimming carnivals where broadening shoulders Butterfly their way to age champion. A darkening on your upper lip and school yard banter with your tribe. My first introduction to eye brow tweezing. Reading Dolly magazine.
The first nervous eye darts of two people on the cusp of falling in love. The thumping bass of techno music. Holding hands. The Cancer Council daffodil hanging from your rearviewmirror. Twisting the apple stalk til it landed on D. Sing alongs to Pearl Jam. Surfboard wax and long, long hair.
A lemon silk gown and a string quartet. A giant fig tree, a carpet of petals. An exchange of rings; an unbreakable union. Watching the smile lines deepen slightly. Asking for your help to pull out a stray grey hair. Gentle talks long into the night. Laughing until we cry. Making my tea just how I like it. Birthing two magnificent creations. Basking in their beauty. Pride at what we've made.
Some of these moments have vividly imprinted on our long term memories. Others are loitering in the short term hoping to be chosen to pass through to deep remembrance. Many have darted from thought and vanished forever. This, a time of our lives we cherish and so desperately want to hold close can not become little fragments of a dream you long to remember. We thank you Mr. Tim Coulson with such love for taking a little slice of our simple world and illuminating it. Through your lens we see every honest, subtle, beautiful detail; the wisps of life that are often forgotten. We have lingered over them and breathed them in. We want to tie them down and rekindle these thoughts often. Your gentle way and brilliant gift has given us the breathtaking fuel to do so. You are a king among men.
